As the game engine further developed Valve added Prop Physics and certain other material to create what is known as the Source Engine. The second Half-Life² Alpha version ran of the Source Engine and had a new game menu system, an addition of physics to world props, a new HUD for in game, and also rag doll effects to models. The 2nd version had more models for characters and maps created by Valve members. This version introduced the development of the Borealis, the Air Exchange, Parts of City 17, and the Kraken Base. In this version Gordon was to start the Half-Life² story at the Borealis with resistance from Stalkers, Zombies, Soldiers and Ichthyosaurs'.
